Welcome
Mad Dwarf Workshop is the work of swordsmith David DelaGardelle and knifesmith Andy Davis, but it is also an extended group of like minded individuals who have a love and passion for history, mythology, nature, ancient craftsmanship, and the good Lord. The Workshop was founded in November of 2004 in Newcastle Indiana by the two young craftsmen. Together they began to chase their life long dream of learning how to forge swords like the ones they read about in the epic sagas, mythologies, and historical legends they loved since childhood.
Their goal from the start was not to craft mere weapons or tools that were used to spread hatred, violence and evil throughout human history. But instead their goal was to craft swords that evoke the positive traits of mankind: bravery, courage, honor, loyalty, respect, and even a love for enemies. Keeping this in mind they try to craft swords that take you back to a time and place that is only now told in myth & legends. Hopefully when you pick up one of their swords you feel the sense of honor, valor, principle, and moral responsibility a warrior might have felt in the epics of old.
Balancing their love of history and mythology, they try to craft a variety of work. Some could fit faithfully in a specific time period of history, down to the smallest details in construction, esthetics, and form. Others are inspired by modern fantasy or are completely original designs that stand alone in a distinct style, while still staying true to the properties of what makes a real sword a truly functional work of art. And whether a piece is a historically faithful reconstruction or an original design, we believe that it should stand stand for something more than being a simple weapon. It should tell a story, convey a theme, display a culture's heritage, or even to inspire its wielder to live by more honorable virtues.
We at Mad Dwarf Workshop firmly believe that in our modern, mechanized, & chaotic world it’s easy to lose sight of what inspired those stories, the strong ideals and absolute truths of honor and courage. That’s why they hope that through the swords they forge, they might inspire others to keep those ideals alive and to use the God given talents that we all have! On this site you can find news and updates about MDW work and many examples of past work along with some work that is available for sale. God bless, Enjoy your stay, and may your forge always be afire!
