Carrowclaid

Crafted by David DelaGardelle, Carrowclaid is an elven leafblade long sword. It evokes elements of the hunt and the deep cultural roots of a culture that only exists in song and legends.

Forged from high carbon 1075, the blade has a slender diamond cross section. The guard and pommel are forged and filed to reflect the shape of stag antlers and are made from 200+ year old wrought iron which has been antiqued. The wood is carved from Bubinga, an exotic red wood that is rarely seen used on swords.

The carving, decor, and overall aesthetic is reminiscent of ancient early Christian Celtic art such as seen in the small but strikingly detailed work of the Book of Kells. Despite the slight historical inspiration the decor work is purposefully executed with its own unique interpretations of such motifs, to further give the allusion of a theoretical culture that could have existed.
